Date

Description

A Level 1 building survey of the Torvean Golf Course clubhouse was carried out by AOC Archaeology Group in June 2019 prior to demolition of the buildings as part of the development of Phase 2 of the Inverness West Link project. The purpose of the work was to create a record of the site prior to its loss. The original clubhouse structure comprised a harled, single-storey stone structure with a slate roof. It formed the northeast two-thirds of the building, measuring 37-38m overall NE-SW and 6m wide. The southwest building was a later addition, a 1½-storey timber/brick structure, measuring 15m overall NE-SW and 11m wide. There are no original features or stonework visible on either the exterior or the interior of the structure. Therefore it was unclear during survey how much, if any, of the 19th century structure was incorporated to building. However, during demolition, extensive sandstone rubble and hewn stone was noted, suggesting that at least part of the original structure survived within the clubhouse structure. <1>
