Description

Level 2 Historic Building Recording on a railway bridge and basic Historic Building Recording on an adjacent plate layer’s hut at Dalcross were undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 2021. The buildings lie approximately 11km north-east of Inverness. The work has been carried out in order to secure discharge of a condition placed on planning permission for the proposed Dalcross Loop rail improvements, which required archaeological works to be carried out prior to development commencing. The Historic Building Recordings form part of the required programme of archaeological work covered by the condition. The documentary sources consulted in the preparation of this report, coupled with on-site observations, has assisted in refining the interpretation of the structures, including the materials used and the construction styles. <1>
