Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by AOC Archaeology Group in 2023 at John O’Groats Mill, Newton, John O’Groats in advance of a proposed extension to the mill building to form visitor facilities, landscaping, and a car parking area. An archaeologist supervised excavation by mechanical excavators fitted with 1m and 2m wide straight-edged buckets. The works were split into two areas, the proposed mill extension foundation and the main visitor's car park. No archaeological features or deposits were identified in either area during the watching brief. As such, no further archaeological work was proposed in relation to the development area. <1>
