Date
March 1998
Description
A walkover survey was undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 1998 in advance of a Woodland Grant Scheme at Sands Farm, Gairloch. The survey area covered 83 ha of land on the River Sand, 3km northwest of Gairloch. The survey area is at 50 to 100 m OD and covered the west end of a low ridge, Druim an Fheadain, which was bounded to the north and south by the small but steep-sided valleys of the Allt na Droma Leithe and Allt an Fheadain. The land was used as rough pasture. The survey area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were identified and described. Where necessary the archaeological features were located using a Total Station. Conditions for the survey were generally good with low vegetation and adequate light and visibility. <1>
