Full Description
What may be an unroofed building is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet xv). The unroofed building is shown on the current edition OS 1:10,560 map (1961).
Information from RCAHMS (FO) 15 August 1995.
A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.
Located on a shingle storm-beach opposite A' chleit tidal island is a dry-stone building measuring 6.2 m by 4.5 m over walls 0.75 m thick and standing to 0.8 m high. This structure is in a very ruinous condition and infilled with rubble. A section of squared-off wall end in the centre of the east wall suggests an entrance. This structure is presumably related to fishing activity, and is clearly that mentioned in the NMRS entry for site No 9. As this structure is situated on the storm-beach is liable to damage in severe weather. <1>
