Full Description

An archaeological survey at Rothiemurchas was undertaken by Dr T C Welsh in 1993.

Between Cairn Valley cottage and the estate road from Loch an Eilein Gate to Blackpark, on a free-standing steep—sided hill about 9 metres high, is an oval platform 19m N-S by 15 base, 13 1/2 x 8 2/3rds summit, on which overlapping the SW side of the mound is a sub-rectangular mound 10 x 8 m orientated SW-NE, top 6m square, with a "porch" midway on NW side 4 m long and 2m deep. The rest of the summit north descends in a series of terraces, over which a zig-zag ramp ascends. The site is included in fig 8f for comparison with the double enclosure types, to compare with the mound-based inner component types. <1>
