Full Description

Site recorded as a 'Dun' by Dr Thomas C. Welsh, Sept. 1993.

Situated between the stream linking Loch Gamnha to Loch an Eilein, where a gully has partly undermined the walls, and up to 10 m W of a 19th century ha-ha type boundary bank which cuts across the site, a dun internally 10 to 11 m diameter, within rubble walls up to 7m thick, up to llm high, overall 28m N-S by 30m. On south is an outwork in an arc merging with the dun wall east & west, formed by a rubble bank up to 4m thick, and partly accompanied by a ditch, also represented on west. On the north side is a steep slope although a narrow ridge approaches from NW (on which is an oval foundation 7 x 5m). Within the dun are structures against the wall up to 3 m deep, and partly overlying the wall on NE a coarse foundation 9 x 5 m. In the space between the dun and outwork on south, two foundations 7 x 4m and 3m square. The site is covered by birchwood. Figure 5 shows the dun and a possibly related complex of walls created out of the debris fan at the foot of the stream linking the lochs. <1> <2>
