Full Description

An archaeological survey at Rothiemurchas was undertaken by Dr T C Welsh in 1993.

On the west side of the stream, extending up to 80 metres south of the shore of Loch an Eilein (fig 5). It consists of a triangular enclosure with a ditch on west side at the south angle of which are rough oval and rectangular foundations, and there is a building platform inside the curved SE side. Below this a bank curves west from the NW corner to enclose a wider area of shore, against the inside of which is a rectangular foundation 13 x 5m There is a further enclosure west of this. These works possibly functioned as defended stock enclosures. <1>
