Full Description

An archaeological survey at Rothiemurchas was undertaken by Dr T C Welsh in 1993.

Across the approach to Creag a' Mhuilinn is an arc of rubble wall up to 4m wide, and possibly a ditch, about 100 m SW of the tip of the promontory, which also contains two cairns (item 5). There is a wide entrance gap. 30m NE within this is a rectangular pile of stones, either a foundation or another cairn, broadly 13 m long and up to 6 m wide, but the south side is indented centrally by about 2m, and the east end is three sided. The wall across the approach may indicate a ritual/funerary area rather than a domestic use of the promontory. <1>

The feature visible on SEPA LiDAR data broadly meets the site description. (TB 19/1/25) <2>
