Full Description
Former VHF Receiving station for RAF Tain Airfield. See MHG65909 for the two associated buildings to the north.
Detailed plans of the airfield dating to 1945-6 are held by the Royal Air Force Museum. A digital copy (albeit undated) is held in the HER collections. The station is shown and labelled on the plan. <1>
One of the radio receiving/transmitters for Tain Airfield and its transformer is situated at a point where a track leads W from a minor public road and where it crosses the railway from Inverness to Tain.
There are three buildings constructed of concrete, one, the VHF receiving station lies 120m SE from the road immediately alongside the railway. The transformer and one other building are located either side of the minor road immediately E of the railway bridge. All are visible on vertical air photogarphs (RAF 106G/UK 751 5083-4, flown 1945).
