Full Description
An archaeological walkover survey was undertaken by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1996 at Claggersnich Farm, Cromdale.
A substantial lime kiln of drystone construction lies largely intact on the North bank of the Alli Mhic Neacai/ in the SE corner of the enclosure formed by dykes 10 & 12. Indeed it may predate the enclosure as the South wall appears to abut the kiln. The kiln is just over 2m wide at the top and narrows to I.Sm wide where exposed with a flue on the South. It survives over Im in height. Low fusing of the stones internally suggest high temperatures were not attained here and it was probably peat fired. The kiln is gradually collapsing from the top. <1><2>
