Full Description

A survey of the archaeological and historic features was undertaken within Abernethy Forest Reserve for the RSPB in 1995.

The stone footings of a shieling 14.69m E/W, 5m N/S very much obscured by turf. A D-shaped kailyard lies on the south side, 8.2m wide from N/S. The entrance to the building is on the north side possibly 6m from its NE corner and 0.8m wide. only the occasional stone is still visible and the footings stand to little more than 0.3m except in the NE corner where they reach 0.45m. This is shown as a roofed building on the 1863 OS map, and an unroofed building on the 1:10,000 OS. <1>
