Full Description
An archaeological walkover survey of a single, distinct area of proposed planting of natural woodland regeneration was carried by M. Wildgoose at Coille an Torran, Raasay in 1999.
Site 18: Tucked under the north-east side of a low rock outcrop, about 70.0m to the north-west of the Torran to Umachan path and overlooked by the imposing bulk of Meall Dearg, is a ruinous pen. This sub-circular pen measures 1.1m in overall diameter over walls that have tumbled into ruin. There is no entrance. <1>
Raasay Survey 2000. Site 42: About 70m west of the Torran-Umachan track, and overlooked by Meall Dearg, is a very degraded stone-built pen situated under the northeast side of a low rock outcrop. The pen is sub-circular in plan and has an external diameter of 1.10m. The walls are very degraded and no entrance can be discerned. <2>
