Full Description
Located at the side of Loch Gaorsaic is a boathouse. The use of cement, including the main lintel, indicates a date about later 19th or early 20th c.
See assoc. docs. File for SMR NH01SE0011.
J Aitken : 21/02/01.
This boathouse was recorded during an NTS pre-afforestation survey of Kintail and West Affric in 1997. Located on the north shore of Loch Gaorsaic, the remains of the building measured c.3.5m by c.5m wih walls c.0.6m wide. The doorway fronted the loch and was 1.8m wide and 1.8m high. The walls appeared to be made of poured concrete. The roof sloped from c.2.5m high to c.1.75m high. Former timbers from the building had been burnt.
This building was not recorded on the 1st or 2nd edition maps, and was considered locally to have been abandoned before 1971. The cement was presumably brought in and mixed with locally available sand and gravel. <1>
