Full Description
A cast iron milepost, one of a series along the unclassified road from Drimnin to Doirlinn, was recorded by J.G. Roberston in 1997 during a pre-afforestation survey of the northeast part of the Drimnin Estate. The milepost lies at the N end of a track, which forms the continuation of the Drimnin to Doirlinn road down to the site of the ferry between Doirlinn and Glenborrodale. There is no man-made jetty visible here, but the rocks shelve steeply suggesting a natural anchorage. It is inscribed: DRIMNIN 6¾ MILES DORLIN = SMITH PATTERSON & CO FOUNDERS BLAYDON. <1>
The milepost, one of seven on the Poor Relief Road, was listed at Category C by Historic Environment Scotland with effect from 26/01/22022. <2>
Note: Listing GIS data appear to place the feature c.30m to the southeast of its position based on its description in <1>.
