Full Description

Former threshing barn and mill powered by a waterwheel at Applecross Mains.

The building complex containing the former threshing barn and mill was Listed at Category C in 1983.

Remains of water mill machinery on the lane (N) side and wheel pit. Mill wheel machinery recently retrieved from Crait Barn site that is being re-developed - HAW 5/2003

What remains of the threshing mill was recorded during a building survey of Applecross Mains steading by a group supervised by C Dagg in 2012 as part of the Applecross Archaeology Training Project, funded by ALPS. Threshing barn: Ground floor now holds two freestanding threshing machines, presumably run from a tractor, and a bruiser. All the gearing from the water wheel has now been removed, leaving only some fittings on the inner face of the external wall. <1>
