Full Description

Cait McCullagh has identified a second Class I Pictish symbol stone at Cotterton, this one being built in to the farmhouse as a window sill (See MHG54302 for first Pictish stone). The stone is on the SSW facing wall of the farmhouse at NH 62170 52140. The stone is partially covered by harling. It is suggested that this stone, like the first, has been inserted in an upside down position and that the incised markings suggest either plumage or scales. This is possibly either a goose or fish pictogram. The photographs show the suggestion of a fin, perhaps on the underside of a fish symbol (so ventral) but this is not easily perceived upon examination of the stone itself. <1>
