Full Description
A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.
On a shingle beach at the west side of the inlet is a wrought-iron boat-winch, which stands 1 m high on a concrete plinth which measuring 2.25 m NE-SW by 1.3 m. This winch is still in working order. <1>
An abandoned boat winch on the shoreline NNW of Smoo Cave. The word 'Windlass' appears on the 2nd edition OS Map and may be associated: perhaps the name of a ruined boat associated with this feature.
The boat winch was visited and photographed by A Puls of Highland Council on the 18th of September 2013.
