An archaeological walkover survey of the proposed site for a hydro scheme at Allt Dearg, near Achterneed, Strathpeffer, was carried out by AOC in 2017.
Site 1: A bracken, nettle and grass covered stone-built sheep fank, partially degraded. Constructed from rubble stone, some of which are partly hewn and some mortaring survives. Walls survive to between 0.8 -1.2m high and are 0.4m wide at the top and 0.7m wide at the base. Division walls are evident, forming small pens within the greater enclosure of the fank. It is partly truncated by a forest road. <2>
