Full Description

A very degraded farmstead was noted in a walkover survey by West Coast Archaeology Services in 2011, prior to a proposed woodland planting scheme. At base of northeast-facing slope, 4m southwest of the stream, are the very degraded remains of a stone or turf rectilinear structure measuring 9m east to west by 5m wide over walls spread to 1.2m wide and survived to 0.5m high with a possible entrance in northeast end 0.7m wide. Located 2m north and connected by a turf bank 1m wide and standing up to 0.3m high is another turf or stone structure measuring 6m east to west by 4.5m wide over walls spread to 1m wide and survived up to 0.3m high with a possible entrance in the east side. <1>

Though these buildings are not especially visible on any vertical aerial photographs, they (and that recorded under MHG55924), would appear to represent the southern end of the former township of Sherrabeg shown at this location (mainly to the north) on Roy's Military Maps (see MHG for the township record). <2>
