Full Description

The former township of Sherrabeg, Glenshero.

The township (named 'Sherowbeg') is shown on both sides of the original course of the former Wade's Miitary Road, and both sides of the burn on the maps of Roy's Military Survey. Twenty-three buildings are shown, as well as areas of ploughed fields. <1>

The remains of buildings which probably represent the southern end of the former township were recorded during a walkover survey by West Coast Archaeological Services in 2011 in advance of a proposed woodland planting scheme (see MHG55924 and MHG55925). <2>

The current farmstead at Sherrabeg may partly lie over the northern end of the southwestern group of buildings as shown on the Roy map. The area of the northernmost cluster of buildings on the north side of the original Military road may also now be partly under the reservoir. There may also be slight remains of building foundations in the field on the east side of the burn to the north of the current road. There is also a bank running from near the road on the east side fo the burn down to the site of the original bridge over the burn on vertical aerial photographs taken in 2023. This bank appears to continue from the site of the bridge northwestwards towards what is now the reservoir [IS-L 25/04/2024].
