Full Description
An archaeological survey for a proposed Woodland Grant Scheme was conducted by C Dagg at North Applecross, Wester Ross in 1999.
Site no. 2: Dyke. This dyke is a continuation of the dyke, site no. L 1 , identified during the first survey, which runs along the south bank of the burn on the boundary between Lonbain and Salacher Common Grazings. When the burn peters out the dyke continues on the same line until NG 6997 5196 where it turns south and can be traced faintly running along the flat boggy ground at the base of where the ground begins to rise steeply. Where this steep slope turns rocky and cliffy, the dyke turns SE into the rockface. South of this, short sections of stone dyke have been constructed across the gaps on the cliffs where it would have been possible for livestock to climb up to the higher ground. These stone dykes are placed quite high up the slopes, at the narrowest points between the cliffs.<1>
