Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

Adjacent to the south bank of the River Grudie is a gravel-and-stone metalled roadway up to 2.5 m wide. This roadway is approximately 7 m from the riverbank and continues for some distance around the Grudie peninsula (see No 21) to Ach' Chairn (see No 24). There are several stretches of the roadway that have disappeared due to flooding andjor erosion from the Kyle of Durness. <1>
