Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

On the west bank of the River Dionard, adjacent to the bungalow at Ach' Chairn' is a flat-topped grassed mound, defined on the west side by large boulders and measuring 28 m by 22 m. The east side of the mound has indications of containing part of a large rectangular structure which could be a longhouse within the larger area enclosed by the mound.. <1>
