Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

A rubble-constructed revetment wall, c 18 m in length, consisting of rounded stones of 0.1 m-0.3 m in diameter and occasional large boulders. This wall is situated at the base of the embankment along which the modern road runs. Many of the loose stones are being washed downhill. <1>
