Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

On the edge of a raised beach at the landward side of the modern road is a linear stone feature, 1 course high and which runs for 16 m. This feature is constructed from large, rounded and angular boulders and there are pockets of similiar boulders located N of this which may be part of the linear construction but with sections missing in between. This feature is located at the edge of a near-vertical drop and may have acted as sign-post to that fact. <1>

NGR adjusted based on 2023 vertical aerial photographs. <2>

Note: the linear feature appears to continue north for another 16m. (TB 22/4/26)
