Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

On the grassed, south side of the promontory is a sub-oval structure delineated by low turf banks. This feature measures 4 m E-W by 3 m internally. The north side of this structure is more ephemeral than the south. There are further elements to this structure at the east in the form of more turf banks which may represent a yard. These features at the east appear to have been truncated by the supposed drove road adjacent (see MHG11220). The turf banks are generally 0.9 m wide and 0.2 m high. This site lies immediately outside the cairn and turf bank enclosure (see MHG12041) and could possibly be related to it. There is some land slippage over the crags at the south end of this site. <1>
