Full Description
A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.
On an area of stable, grassed sand-dunes between the road and Sango Bay are two sub-rectangular, mortared stone enclosures: These structures are set within a cut measuring 30 m by 10 m. The north structure measures 6 m by 5.5 m and is visible for 0.5 m above the ground-surface. This structure contains rusting steel reinforcements and traces of corrugated iron. The south structure measures 4.3 m by 4.5 m and is visible for 0.3 m above the ground surface. This complex would seem to represent defensive structures from WWII. <1>
