Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

On the inland side of the modern road above Sango Bay is a 60 m long stretch of dry-stone revetment which stands up to 1 m high. This is to stop land slippage from above falling onto the road. This stretch of revetment is on the same line as, and indeed joins with, a free-standing field dyke. The revetment is becoming overgrown with rough grass. <1>
