Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

Located to the north of Leirinmore township is an area of 4-5 m wide rigs running approximately W-E down the slope to the cliff-edge. These rigs are not within an enclosed area. There is some land slippage at the seaward side of these rigs which may have been caused by rabbit burrowing. There are also a large number of sub-circular depressions in the vicinity which would appear to be caused by subterranean limestone erosion. <1>
