Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

On a grassed slope between the modern road and the cliff-edge is a section of an older trackway which is up to 3.3 m wide. This trackway is dry-stone revetted on the S side and is overlain by both a dry-stone dyke and the modern road at the E end. There is also a quarry at the landward side of this trackway which is beginning to impinge upon it. <1>
