Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

Above high rocky cliffs to the immediate east of the township of Sangobeg there is an area of strip cultivation. This is represented by what appears to be `lazy beds' set at various angles and measuring approximately 3.5 m wide with 1.5 m gaps between. These cultivation strips are located immediately east of the eastern¬most dyke of the township and run down to the cliff-edge. <1>
