Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

On a steep slope above a rock beach are two possible terraces and two turf-clad dykes. The terraces lie 15 m apart and each measure 5 m N-S by 3 m and are defined by sharp breaks of slope on either side. The first dyke is 17 m NE of the east terrace and is 1 m wide, 0.6 in high and has some stone in the fabric; it runs along the slope, but then appears to curve down-slope on both sides (possibly to form an enclosure). The second dyke runs E-W down-slope, being 3 m wide and 0.7 m high, to the north of the first dyke. <1>
