A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

On a grassed raised beach at the west of the tombola is a sub-rectangular, possible structure. This feature measures 4 m N-S by 2 m and is defined by low, turf-clad banks 0.7 m wide and 0.3 m high. Stones are apparent beneath the turf in the west bank and inside the structure on the west. There is a possible entrance on the south side.<1>
