Full Description
A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.
A dry-stone noust which measures 6 m E-W by 5 m and which stands to 1 m high. The noust has been cut into the turf and revetted on three sides. The internal area has been split into two compartments; the south half having a corrugated iron roof supported on wooden poles and housing a fibreglass boat, buoys and nets; the north half is enclosed and locked with a wooden door and presumably is a store for more expensive material. At the west (rear) of the noust is a cast-iron boat-winch, 1 m high on a 0.85 m by 0.85 m base. <1>
