Full Description
A township, which comprises seventeen roofed and two unroofed buildings is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet vii). Eleven roofed and five unroofed buildings are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,560 map (1962).

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow. The township of Strathan is described in the NMRS from cartographic sources. Within the area of this survey, there were three features recorded:
(b) Dry-stone walling at the NE of the building which runs to the east to meet with an outcrop cliff-face and continues from that to the north. <1>
