Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

At the west side of the modern road there is a scooped area 15 m in diameter and 1.8 m deep with a flat base, located in the SE corner of a field. There is a quantity of boulders and smaller rubble lying on the sides of this depression which would appear to represent a quarry-hole partially back-filled with field-clearance. The sides of this hole are generally slumping back into the base. <1>
