Full Description
A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.
On low lying grassland, 1.8 m from the north bank of the Kyle end of Kirkiboll Burn, is a linear scatter of large boulders measuring 16 m long. Some of these boulders are turf-clad and this would seem to represent an old dyke. At the west end of this feature is a long, low, flat-topped, turf-clad mound on a slightly different alignment. This mound is 7.5 m long by 3.4 m wide at the broadest point. There are stones evident through probing in the fabric of this feature and some stone visible along the edges which suggest a kerb. This may be a cairn with a later dyke built on to it. This site could be threatened when the burn is spating. <1>
