Full Description
A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.
Cut into the slope at the west side of the modern road is a large quarry-scoop, with a diameter of some 15 m and up to 10 m high. This may be associated with the construction of the road. This is silting naturally from the up-slope side. <1>
