Full Description

A rapid coastal zone assessment survey was conducted by GUARD in the Autumn of 1997 commissioned by Historic Scotland from the Viking and Early Settlement Archaeological Research Project based at the University of Glasgow.

At the cliff-edge on the neck of a promontory is a 15 m long, roughly N-S alignment of boulders with a quantity of associated boulders. This feature is marked at the cliff-edge by a large boulder 1.5 m wide. There is also a second, smaller stone-alignment at the east which runs NE from the south end of the first. This area is almost entirely denuded of turf and topsoil due to drainage down the slope at the rear and out over the cliff, leaving this feature entirely exposed. There are not sufficient remnants of this feature to allow an interpretation of its original function.<1>
