Full Description
NC 344 046: Touskerry - depopulation noted from W Roy's (W Roy 1747-9) survey of 1747. <1>
OS Recorder.
The presumed site was visited by J Harden during a pre-afforestation walkover survey in 1998. South of Collie an Tosgaire is the presumed site of a settlement known as Touskerry, recorded by General Roy during his military survey of the Highlands of Scotland between 1747 and 1755. The recent OS maps of the area show a roofed structure in the general vicinity, but it can not have been roofed for many, many years. The only structure that was identified in the area consisted the drystone footings for a structure c3m wide and c4.5m long across walls c0.7m wide and c0.2m high at NC34440462. There did seem to be the faint remains of a turf and boulder dyke running SW downslope towards the track from near the SW corner of the structure. Other structures were not noted, but if there had been raking sunlight across the ground there might have been slight features of note. <2>
