EHG1337 - Watching brief - Inverness Airport Access Road, Petty

Technique(s)

Organisation

SUAT Ltd

Date

June-July 2005

Description

A watching brief was carried out by SUAT in 2005 on groundworks during construction of a new 2km long access road to Inverness Airport. This followed on from a DBA and walkover survey in 2002 (see EHG1646) and an evaluation in two areas in 2004 (see EHG1178). Seven areas of specific archaeological interest were stripped by mechanical excavator with a ditching bucket under archaeological supervision while the remainder of the site was stripped by bulldozer. No further significant archaeological evidence was found at Cnoc an t-Sidhean or a C18 croft site. Shallow drainage ditches, plough scarring, pit features, field clearance mounds and part of a dyke were observed and recorded elsewher over the site. These features contained no easily datable finds and were not considered of great archaeological significance. <1>
