Date

Description
An archaeological survey at Achinduich Farm was undertaken by AOC (Scotland) Ltd in 1996 in advance of a proposed forestry development at Cnoc Torr an Leamhain, Auchinduich. The survey area extended over an area of 1.6 km². It occupied the summit and west-facing slopes of Snoc Torr an Leamhain, a low rounded hill which overlooked the valley of the River Shin. Heather moorland predominated through the survey area, though rough pasture grasses and bracken occurred in the environs of the abandoned farmstead at Achinduich. The survey area was traversed at regular intervals and all archaeological features were described in the field. Conditions for surveying were not wholly favourable as snow lay on the surface of the heather to a depth of circa 0.15m. Nonetheless, topographical variations could stil be identified in the field and all significant surface features were recorded. <1>
