Description
An archaeological survey at Achinduich Farm was commissioned by Historic Scotland in advance of a proposed forestry development. The survey area extends over an area of 1.6 sq km. It occupies the summit and west-facing slopes of Snoc Torr an Leamhain, a low rounded hill which overlooks the valley of the River Shin. Heather moorland predominates through the survey area, though rough pasture grasses and bracken occur in the environs of the abandoned farmstead at Achinduich. The survey area was traversed at regular intervals and all archaeological features were described in the field. Conditions for surveying were not wholly favourable as snow lay on the surface of the heather to a depth of circa 0.15m. Nonetheless, topographical variations could stil be identified in the field and all significant surface features have been recorded. <1>
