EHG2812 - Desk based assessment and trial trenching east of Invergordon Golf Course

Technique(s)

Organisation

Highland Heritage

Date

June 2008

Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of a proposed new housing development. A prior desk-based assessment identified the area as a former fairway of the Invergordon Golf Course with a green at the southern end. Prior to that it was part of the policies of Invergordon Castle. Eight trial trenches were excavated comprising a 5% sample of the site. No features associated with settlement or structures, apart from field boundary dykes, of any period were located and no small finds were recovered apart from a very small scatter of modern ceramics and glass. <1>
