EHG2915 - DBA and walkover survey - southeast of Bettyhill, Sutherland

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey of the site of a proposed wind farm (including the areas of the proposed turbine sites and access tracks) southeast of Bettyhill was undertaken by Highland Archaeology Services in 2007. Two separate areas were subject to the survey. There was evidence of extensive peat cutting across the whole area and especially to the east of the turbine sites. This was considered likely to have damaged any archaeological finds and features. However, large areas of wet, deep peatland appeared to survive, with potential to preserve buried evidence. Poorly defined mounds representing possible archaeological features were recorded in some areas but without excavation their nature could not be clearly determined. These are to be safeguarded. <1>
