Date

March 2007 to March 2009

Description

An archaeological watching brief was commissioned by Halcrow Ltd on behalf of Scottish Water Solutions during renewal of water mains through Inverness old town, ahead of the Streetscape project. This took place from March 2007 to March 2009 during excavations in the streets in the Inverness City Centre, in accordance with planning requirements set by the Highland Council. The purpose was to record any archaeology revealed by the work. Initial desk-based research was followed by weekly visits throughout the work. The identification of features of interest occasionally called for in situ analysis and excavation by hand. The main concentration of features was uncovered in the Queensgate-Church Street-Fraser Street area. A large number of photographs were taken during the works which are held on CD at HCAU. <1><2> The excavtion assemblage from the work was submitted to Treasure Trove (TT 18/12) and allocated to Inverness Museum. <3>
