Technique(s)
Organisation
Nick Lindsay
Date
November 2009
Description
An archaeological desk-based study and subsequent walk-over survey of the area around Rayen, at the upper reaches of Scottarie Glen, to the N of Golspie in East Sutherland, was undertaken in November 2009. The survey was required by Sutherland Estates to establish the extent of archaeological remains, which would, in turn, determine a route for a new wind farm road.
The survey area comprises a strip of land approximately 1km x 0.3km of gently to moderately sloping hill ground at the top of Scottarie Glen. It is situated approximately 9km to the north of the village of Golspie on the east coast of Sutherland and is accessed, via a track which serves the existing Kilbraur wind farm, from the Dunrobin Glen road at Farlary, Rogart.
The survey resulted in the plotting of a route which avoided crossing any archaeology.
Two existing sites were recorded, but no new sites were identified during the survey. <1>
