Description
A walk-over DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) survey was carried out during August – October 2004 by J Wood. Some digital photography was undertaken to provide an indication of the types of archaeology and conditions, but a comprehensive and detailed photographic record was not attempted. A DGPS MAX backpack unit was used, with a field computer running Penmap software. This provided sub-metre accuracy and enabled the survey to be checked in the field. Both beacons and satellites (WAAS and EGNOS) were used for the differential correction as signal strength was low in the area. The resulting data was then adjusted to the Ordnance Survey base. Relevant archaeological records and aerial photographs held in Inverness and Edinburgh were also checked. <1>
