Technique(s)
Organisation
Headland Archaeology Ltd
Date
June 1999
Description
A walkover survey was undertaken by Headland Archaeology in 1999 in advance of a proposed Woodland Grant Scheme at Lynebreck, covering an area of approximately 61 ha of land around Lynebreck croft some 6 km south-east of Grantown-on-Spey on the A939 Grantown-Tomintoul road. The area straddled the A939 road and incorporated the southeast facing slopes of Beinn an Fhudair. With the exception of the fields around the Lynebreck croft, the area consisted of dry heather moorland with a wetter boggy area to the south. The survey area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were described and located using a Total Station. Three features or groups of features were recorded, including a building, a second building and enclosures and an extensive cairnfield. <1>
