Date
Feb 1999
Description
The Balavil Estate WGS survey covered an area of approximately 57 ha of land around Creag Bheag, some 2 km NE of Kingussie, Highland at an altitude of 285 to 375 m. Much of the survey area supports mature birch woodland. The northern part of the scheme is treeless with a heath vegetation dominated by heather and juniper. The present extent of the woodland has not changed significantly since the 1st edition OS map surveyed in 1870. The survey area was systematically walked by a team of two archaeologists and all features of archaeological interest were identified and described. Where necessary the features were located using a Total Station. <1>
